What is the most important thing in our lives? I mean if we had to choose, which will it be?

Some of you might start thinking: Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, Daughter, Son, Wife, Husband and most of all God.  And these are all valid answers. According to the life we live, I ask you, is there something that we, as humans, pay more attention to and is programmed by?

Yes there is ….. it is TIME!!! That’s right … Time

Time is the most important thing in our lives. No one can run away from it, choose whether to have it or not, change it, control it, or even sop it. Time is something in its own category, almost as holy as God is … and I mean it when I say almost because God is above all in my eyes …

Let’s look at this equation together:

Time = God, therefore God = Time

But where did time come from? Well if God created all that there is, then that means God created time. Does that mean only God controls time? or does time control itself? Good question.

Time is inevitable, time is invisible, time is patience, time is life. Time can be related to almost everything.  What if there was no time? … Would anything else exist?  God used time to create the earth and all that is living in it.

Time is what a baby needs to develop in his mother’s womb.  Children grow with time, love grows with time, flowers bloom in time, people heal in time, careers grow in time, people die in due time.

Everything and everyone has got a time, a time for a start and a time  for an end.  Time cannot be manipulated or tricked, time does not go back, only forward. The moment that passes never returns and you do not know what will happen in the future as TIME will show you, time will prove it to you, time just knows.

Time is  more powerful than anything we can imagine. Time controls our emotions: there is a time to laugh, a time to cry, a time to relax, a time to stress, a time to think, a time to not give a damn.  Time controls our mere existence; a time to be born, grow, talk, fall in love, get married, have children and a time to die.

Time heals all kinds of wounds, time makes us forget, makes us excited and disappointed.  Time can drive us crazy, sometimes there is too much time you don’t even know what to do with it and sometimes there is not enough time to do all you need to do… or is it really ‘need to?’  Do we really need to or is it that we want to?  Isn’t life all about choices? We can choose what we want and not want.  We can’t choose time but we can work around it.  Time may be limited but at the same time never-ending or so it seems .. depends on how you look at it and who is looking at it.

The problem in our lives is that we want to do so much in the amount of time we have in one day.  The day, as we are programmed to see is made up of 24 hrs – some of this time is for sleep, some for work, some to eat .. these are more likely the necessary things to do daily to survive.  The rest of the time is for our leisure, for play, entertainment, activities, hobbies, relaxing … whatever suits every person out there – what we do: we choose to do because it is what we want to do.

Since we do not want to give anything up, we push ourselves to do it all – then when we don’t – we say: “there is no time” … When we don’t stay in touch with our loved ones: “I don’t have time”, when we don’t fulfill our responsibilities and obligations: “I don’t have time” .. really? no time?  What do you mean? We got nothing BUT time!! It is not that we do not ‘have time’, it is spending the time we HAVE unwisely.  ‘I don’t have time’ is just an excuse when we don’t really want to do something or feel lazy or it is not as important to us as someone else.  We put TIME into so much unimportant things in our lives daily and we don’t even recognize it.  And I will be the first to admit that I am guilty of that.  At least I recognize it … and I am making an effort to change it in my life.

Again I say, we choose what is important … our priorities can be all messed up – point is we plan our time based on what we see fit for ourselves so it is at the end somewhat of a selfish choice. I am not saying we are wrong for choosing what pleases us in the end, however, I am saying, take a good look at your choices, can you possibly make some sacrifices to please other people in your life, can you maybe work out a different schedule so that everybody wins … I learned this from someone special a long time ago: it is not all ‘Me, me, me’ … so I am continuing in my efforts to incorporate a balance between ‘Me and You’.  Because going all about “You, you, you” is still not the right equation.

Let’s think about how time affects our daily lives.  We may miss something so important if we are a little late for it, on the other hand, we may be too early too.  If you take too long to decide on something, the train may pass you by and some chances do not come by twice in a lifetime. If you are late for work, your boss may make your life a living hell even get fired for it.  We may push for something too soon that if we don’t give it the exact time it needs, it will blow up in our face.  I am sure you have heard this saying: “Timing is everything”.

I want us to take a moment to think about our lives. Mostly everything that happened; happened at a certain time and place.  Let us retrace the steps: what if we were early a bit or late a bit, would the same event have occurred? What about certain people that we met at a certain time and place – what if we didn’t go to this place, what if we made a different choice, what if – what if …… My aim is not to make you start thinking about the ‘what ifs’ in your lives, it is to make you understand how important timing was.

There are two types of timings that we experience usually: there is good timing and there is bad timing. You may say, there is no such thing as good or bad timing – timing is just timing – we just interpret it as good or bad depending on the effect it has on our lives. So may be it is our way of justifying it so we categorize it in our minds.

Time is our destiny. Time is ‘what is meant to be will be’. Time is hope. Time is past, present and future.  Time cannot be felt, touched, smelled, tasted, heard or seen.  Time is to be experienced whether we want to or not.

Time is a gift given to me.  As long as I have time in this lifetime, I want to use it to the best of my ability.  I do not want to waste time on unfruitful things.  Time was handed to me on a silver platter, the least I can do is give it back in different ways .. I just have to get creative!!

Having expressed my own views about Time is very liberating.  Now that I see time in a new light, I decided to start paying attention a little more to my daily activities and to the choices I make. Those that will affect me personally and those that will affect others around me.  Let us all start to pay more attention to the time we have and how we spend it.  Ask yourself when you are in doubt: “What will the benefit be from spending my time doing……..?”

My selected quotes about time:

“Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.” ~~Carl Sandburg~~
“Know how to live the time that is given you.” ~~Dario Fo~~
“Time = Life, Therefore, waste your time and waste of your life, or master your time and master your life.” ~~Alan Lakein~~

  1. We even need time to leave a comment about this post and respond to it.
And, of course, we need time to think about time.
In my mind, though, God does not equal time. God equals Love. Although I agree that without God there would not be anything, which also includes time.
