It is easy to confuse our thoughts with our feelings. It is common practice to find reasons and or excuses as to why we do or do not do certain things. Some say it’s a cop out. And some say it’s totally normal. And so have you wondered which one is really the case or you really don’t care. In the case of not doing what needs to be done. Do you say “I’m just tired” or do you actually admit it and say “I’m just being lazy”.
To be honest, it sounds better when you say you are tired. It feels like a good reason. And perhaps it can get you sympathy or even help you get away from dealing with heavy consequences. On the other hand, saying you are lazy may have some people judging you. Although, being lazy is totally normal from time to time, on the other hand claiming you are tired has its limits. So are you tired “all” of the time. Is that why you didn’t wash the dishes everyday and let it pile up. Is that why your chair has a pile of clothes that increases day by day? How about that message you were supposed to reply to weeks ago? And the list goes on and on.
So you have to be honest with yourself. Are you using being tired as an excuse to be lazy and not do what needs to be done. How long will you continue living like this. And how long will you be able to save the day with every situation you face as a result of your laziness. When do you learn your lesson. At what point will you realize, that being lazy will only cause you more troubles.
In all fairness, it is not easy to differentiate between our feelings of tiredness; whether it’s on a physical or mental level, and our feelings of laziness, when you have been overworking yourself to the limit. You may say to yourself: “I don’t feel like doing this”. So internally you convince yourself that you cannot do it. Not that you can but don’t want to. It seems easier that way. And most of all, we don’t get into too much trouble, even with ourselves. Other times, we do it on purpose, it’s our way of trying to get out of this chore and we hope the plan works.
We do these things and we probably don’t stop to think about what we are doing. That is because we have gotten too used to it. There is nothing wrong with it really. It’s just our coping mechanism in life. Imagine we always knew exactly how we feel all the time. Oh. That would be too boring. Wouldn’t it?
So which is it? Are you tired? Or are you lazy? Be honest, at least to yourself.
